When we set out to explore Yokohama, one of Japan’s most vibrant port cities, we were excited to uncover its unique blend of modernity and tradition.

Located just a short train ride from Tokyo, Yokohama offers a wealth of experiences, from stunning waterfronts to lively districts.

Here’s a glimpse into our unforgettable trip and the must-visit attractions we discovered along the way.

Iconic Landmark: Yokohama Landmark Tower

Our adventure began at the Yokohama Landmark Tower, the tallest building in Yokohama. Standing at 296 meters, this architectural marvel offers an unparalleled panoramic view of the city from its observation deck. The view was breathtaking, especially as we watched the sunset over the harbor. The observation deck, located on the 69th floor, is open from 10 AM to 9 PM daily. Admission is ¥1,000 ($7) for adults, a small price for such a spectacular sight.

Delve into History at the Cup Noodles Museum

Next, we headed to the Cup Noodles Museum in the Minato Mirai area. This quirky museum celebrates the invention of instant noodles, a staple in Japanese cuisine. Interactive exhibits allowed us to design our own cup noodles and learn about the history of this culinary innovation. The museum is open from 10 AM to 6 PM, with the last entry at 5 PM. Admission is ¥500 ($3.50) for adults. The hands-on experience was not only educational but also deliciously fun.

Stroll Through Sankeien Garden

Seeking a more serene escape, we visited Sankeien Garden, a traditional Japanese garden that offered a peaceful retreat from the city’s hustle and bustle. Spanning over 175,000 square meters, the garden features beautiful ponds, historical architecture, and seasonal flowers. We particularly enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere and picturesque scenery. The garden is open from 9 AM to 5 PM, with extended hours until 6 PM during certain seasons. Admission is ¥700 ($5) for adults.

Exciting Times at Yokohama Cosmo World

For a dose of excitement, we spent some time at Yokohama Cosmo World, an amusement park located right by the waterfront. The park’s highlight is the Cosmo Clock 21, a giant Ferris wheel that offers stunning views of the bay. With various rides and attractions suitable for all ages, it’s a fantastic spot for families and thrill-seekers alike. The park is open from 10 AM to 9 PM, and admission is free, though individual ride tickets range from ¥300 to ¥1,000 ($2 to $7).

Relax at the InterContinental Yokohama Grand

To complement our vibrant exploration, we stayed at the luxurious InterContinental Yokohama Grand. Situated in the Minato Mirai area, this hotel is just a short walk from many of the city’s main attractions. With its elegant rooms offering spectacular views of the harbor, it provided a perfect retreat after our busy days. The hotel features a range of dining options and a stunning outdoor pool. Rates start at approximately ¥30,000 ($200) per night for a standard room, reflecting its premium service and prime location.
